Holiday & Destination Childcare Specialist Programme

Holiday & Destination Childcare is professional childcare provided while a family is away from its usual home routine — at or around the place where their holiday or short stay is taking place.

That could mean childcare in a cottage close to home, a countryside retreat, a holiday apartment, a villa abroad, a ski chalet or another temporary holiday setting where parents want trusted childcare while they rest, work, attend activities or simply enjoy more flexibility during their stay.

The KLCA Holiday & Destination Childcare Specialist Programme is for childcare professionals and entrepreneurs who want to understand how childcare changes when it is delivered away from the child’s usual home environment.

You may already know how to care for children. What’s likely new is understanding what happens when the property is unfamiliar, normal routines may be disrupted, the family is operating in holiday mode, the practitioner may be living alongside the family, and the service itself needs to be planned, priced, marketed and delivered professionally.

That’s where this programme comes in.

The programme covers both sides of Holiday & Destination Childcare: the childcare itself, and the business behind it.

On the Childcare & Delivery Side

You’ll learn how to prepare for and deliver childcare professionally when children and families are away from home.

This includes understanding how unfamiliar environments and disrupted routines may affect children; caring across different ages and needs; building trust before and during the booking; creating age-appropriate daily rhythms; and working professionally within villas, cottages, apartments, chalets and other agreed holiday accommodation.

You’ll also learn how to recognise when a request or activity falls outside your current competence, insurance or agreed service scope, and when a booking needs to be changed, restricted, paused or declined rather than simply accepted.

On the Business Side

You’ll learn how to build the Holiday & Destination Childcare service itself.

That includes deciding what you actually want to offer, the destination settings and service arrangements that suit you, how you intend to operate, and the families and organisations you may want to work with.

You’ll also explore the different ways opportunities can reach you — including families directly, nanny and destination agencies, villa and chalet companies, travel and concierge businesses, household managers and family offices — and what changes depending on who refers, contracts, pays and coordinates the booking.

By the end, you’ll understand how a professional Holiday & Destination Childcare service can be:

planned · built · marketed · booked · prepared · delivered · reviewed

Build Your Service as You Learn

This isn’t a programme where you simply attend classes and collect notes.

Throughout the programme, you’ll develop the practical foundations of your own Holiday & Destination Childcare service.

You’ll work progressively on areas such as your service model, Provider Profile, destination and client focus, pricing framework, safety systems, operational standards, marketing materials, booking process and business documentation.

You’ll also work through practical scenarios that reflect the realities of providing childcare away from home — from an unfamiliar property and changing family expectations to live-in boundaries, water safety, medication, additional requests and booking changes.

The aim is for you to finish not simply knowing what Holiday & Destination Childcare is, but understanding how the different parts of a professional specialist service fit together.

Who Is This Programme For?

  • Nannies who want to expand into Holiday & Destination Childcare
  • Experienced childcare practitioners looking for a specialist area of work
  • Early-years and childcare professionals exploring new opportunities
  • Childcare entrepreneurs interested in building a destination-childcare service
  • Existing childcare providers wanting to add holiday or destination cover to their services
  • Practitioners interested in working with families staying in villas, cottages, apartments, chalets and other holiday accommodation
  • Childcare professionals interested in working with villa companies, destination agencies, travel businesses, family offices or concierge services
  • Career changers with suitable childcare experience who want to explore this specialist market

You do not need previous Holiday & Destination Childcare experience or an existing childcare business.

If you already have suitable childcare experience, KLCA helps you build the additional destination-specific childcare, safety, business and operational knowledge needed to understand and develop this type of service professionally.

How the Programme Is Delivered

The full programme is 12 specialist sessions across 6 modules, available in two ways:

For Individual Learners

The complete Specialist Programme is delivered through private 1-to-1 live virtual training with a KLCA trainer, structured as six private 2-hour appointments (one per module), so sessions can focus directly on the Holiday & Destination Childcare service you personally want to build, while receiving individual guidance throughout the learning journey.

For Organisations

KLCA also delivers the programme as a private organisational cohort. Organisations can commission the programme for their own learners, participants, childcare professionals or aspiring childcare entrepreneurs.

Delivery can be arranged:

Live Online · In Person · Blended

Private cohort delivery allows KLCA to work with the organisation around its participant group, intended outcomes and programme delivery needs.

Certificate of Program Completion will be issued at the end of the programme.
