Childcare professionals often build a huge amount of knowledge through years of working with children, families, teams, businesses and services. That knowledge does not have to stop with their own practice.
For some professionals, the next step is using what they have learned to develop other childcare professionals, support aspiring entrepreneurs and create learning opportunities within their own communities.
Starting a Childcare Business School, however, involves much more than knowing a subject well.
You need to understand who you want to teach, what your learners actually need, how to turn your knowledge into structured training, how to facilitate learning confidently, how to organise the learner journey and how to build a training business that people can find, trust and return to.
The KLCA Start Your Own Childcare Business School Specialist Programme is designed for childcare professionals and entrepreneurs who want to develop those skills and build the practical foundations of their own Childcare Business School.
You may already have valuable childcare knowledge and experience — what is likely to be new is learning how to turn that knowledge into a professional training and development offer.
That’s where this programme comes in.
The programme covers both sides of building a Childcare Business School: becoming an effective childcare training facilitator and developing the business, systems and community around the training you deliver.
On the training side, you’ll learn how to identify what you are equipped to teach, understand the needs of your intended learners, create clear learning outcomes, structure workshops and programmes, develop practical activities and resources and facilitate learning confidently.
You’ll also practise the delivery itself — from opening a session and explaining ideas clearly to asking effective questions, encouraging participation, managing different learner behaviours, working with training materials, keeping sessions on track and closing learning professionally.
On the Business School side, you’ll learn how to shape your school model, develop your learner journey, create essential documents and systems, organise training records, plan your delivery calendar and understand the practical costs involved in running your workshops and programmes.
You’ll also explore how to find learners, promote your training, build referrals, approach organisations and develop relationships with childcare providers, community organisations, employability programmes, enterprise networks and other potential partners within your local area.
The final stage introduces the KLCA Childcare Business School Partner Programme and helps you understand the quality standards, responsibilities, readiness expectations and development steps that may apply if you later want to grow your school in partnership with KLCA.
By the end, you’ll understand how a Childcare Business School can be:
defined · designed · facilitated · organised · promoted · grown · quality-assured
Build Your Business School as You Learn
This isn’t a programme where you simply attend training sessions and collect notes.
Throughout the programme, you’ll work progressively on the foundations of your own Childcare Business School.
You’ll develop your Business School concept, identify your target learners, validate local training needs, design a real training offer, build learner activities and resources, practise facilitation, map your learner journey, create operating tools, plan your first recruitment activity and develop your Business School growth and partnership-readiness plans.
So you finish not simply knowing how training businesses work, but understanding how the different parts of your own Childcare Business School could fit together and what you need to establish before beginning to deliver training professionally.
Learners completing the full programme also follow KLCA’s structured portfolio, practical activity and assessment pathway.
Who Is This Programme For?
This programme may be suitable for:
- KLCA learners who want to take their development into training and education
- Experienced childcare professionals who want to share their knowledge with others
- Nannies, childminders and early-years practitioners interested in becoming trainers
- Childcare managers and leaders with knowledge they want to turn into training
- Childcare entrepreneurs interested in opening a training centre or Business School
- Existing childcare providers wanting to add training to their business
- Professionals already delivering informal workshops who want a more structured approach
- Childcare consultants who want to strengthen their training and facilitation skills
- Professionals interested in supporting aspiring childcare entrepreneurs within their communities
- Existing trainers who want to develop a stronger Childcare Business School model
- Learners interested in eventually exploring the KLCA Childcare Business School Partner Programme
You do not need to already own a training centre or Business School.
You also do not need to consider yourself an experienced trainer before starting.
If you already have suitable childcare knowledge, professional experience or specialist expertise, KLCA helps you build the additional training design, facilitation, operational and business-development skills needed to turn that knowledge into a structured learning offer.
How the Programme Is Delivered
The full programme is 12 specialist sessions across 6 modules, available in two ways.
For Individual Learners
The complete Specialist Programme is delivered through private 1-to-1 live virtual training with a KLCA trainer.
The programme takes you progressively through the different stages of developing your Childcare Business School while allowing your private sessions to focus directly on your own experience, training interests, intended learners and Business School goals.
Across the programme, you will work on your own Business School as you learn rather than treating each subject as a separate theory lesson.
You will also complete practical activities between sessions so that your Business School continues to develop throughout the programme.
For Organisations
KLCA also delivers the programme as a private organisational cohort.
Organisations can commission the Start Your Own Childcare Business School Specialist Programme for their own learners, childcare professionals, aspiring trainers, entrepreneurs or workforce-development participants.
Delivery can be arranged:
Live Online · In Person · Blended
Private cohort delivery allows KLCA to work with the organisation around its participant group, intended outcomes and programme-delivery requirements.
Practical Programme Assessment
The programme includes practical work throughout rather than relying only on attendance.
Learners will develop their own Childcare Business School portfolio and complete practical activities including training design, facilitation practice, community validation, learner journey development, recruitment planning and Business School growth planning.
A key part of the programme includes a live micro-training exercise, giving learners the opportunity to facilitate part of their own training offer and receive structured feedback.
Towards the end of the programme, learners will also bring the different parts of their Business School together into a practical development and next-step plan.
Your Certificate
Learners who successfully complete the full programme and required practical activities will receive a:
Certificate of Completion
Childcare Training Facilitation & Business School Development
This recognises completion of the full Start Your Own Childcare Business School Specialist Programme.
Completion of the Specialist Programme does not automatically confer KLCA Childcare Business School Partner status.
Learners who wish to continue towards partnership will follow KLCA’s separate partnership application, readiness, assessment and approval process.
Your Pathway to KLCA Partnership
For some learners, completing the Specialist Programme may be the beginning of a longer relationship with KL Childcare Academy.
The KLCA Childcare Business School Partner Programme is intended for suitable individuals who want to explore developing their local Childcare Business School as part of the wider KLCA network.
The Specialist Programme introduces the principles of partnership, quality standards and readiness, while helping you identify what you may still need to establish before progressing.
Partnership is a separate stage and is subject to KLCA’s own requirements and approval process.
